Overview of the Department

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT 


The department was established in 1962.

Goal

To develop better citizenship, inculcate civic sense and political consciousness among students to promote peace, unity, solidarity and integrity of the nation.

Objectives

To equip students with knowledge and understanding to achieve high academic standards.
To help students to work for social justice and promote human dignity in society.
To discover their potentials and channelize them to form integrated personalities.
Sensitize them to appreciate and respect other faiths and help them to act responsibly in relation to themselves and others.
Prepare students to face social realities and promote peace and unity of the nation.

Activities 2017-2018


Organised a guest lecture on 'Policy Formulation in Democracy-Role of People' by Dr. B.Udaya Prakash, Associate Professor, Dept. of Political Science & Public Administration, Acharya Nagarjuna University on 3.8.17.


The department has undertaken 'Voter Enrollment Programme' in the college campus. 275 student enrollments of Vijayawada East, West and Central were registered.



CONSTITUTION DAY CELEBRATION
As part of constitution day celebration the department has organised elocution competion on the topic 'role of youth in Indian Elections' on 25.11.17.



LYCEUM 2018
The department has organised an inter collegiate state level students fest 'LYCEUM 2018' on 6.1.18.

  




National Voters' Day

As part of National Voters, Day celebration voters pledge in the campus.

CONSTITUTION DAY CELEBRATIONS

Ø  As part of Constitution day celebrations activities to students like Essay writing, Elocution and Debate competitions were conducted on 26.11.16 on the topic ‘Fundamental Duties and its non-justifiable nature.



          
        
            




















NATIONAL VOTERS DAY CELEBRATIONS
Ø  The Department has organized a Rally on National Voters Day  and enlightened the public on the importance of Voting on 25.1.17. Various competitions like Street Play, awareness programme were conducted to the students of various disciplines.

On the eve of 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the department has organised the following activities:
¨      Organised a guest lecture on ‘The Preamble of the Indian Constitution’ by Prof. V. Anji Reddy on 14.11.2015.







 











The department has organised paper presentation competition on the topic “The Preamble of the Indian Constitution” on 21.1.2015.






¨      The department has organised a ‘Study Tour’ to AP and Telangana State Legislatures to the final B.A students on 11.12.15.

ACTIVITIES 2014-2015

                                                The department of Political Science has organized and participated in the following activities:
Organized a guest lecture on “Evolution of Human Rights” by Professor V. Anji Reddy,
Department of Political Science & Public Administration, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur on 22.7.2014

                                                                    
Organized a guest lecture on “Participation of Women in Legislature” by Ch. Vidya, Former M.P, Vijayawada on 3.11.2014.

       
The departments of Political Science, History, Economics and Social Work inaugurated ‘cultural club’ on 23.9.2014 to bring out the hidden talents in the students.
.                                                  

            We have taken all the final B.A students to the vijayawada municipal corporation session on 13.11.2014. This visit has given them practical knowledge about the decision making process in corporation council session.


           

As part of cultural club activities organized an international youth festival in collaboration with International Youth Fellowship (IYF) on 25.11.2014.




INTER DISCIPLINARY ELECTIVE (IDE)
            The department is offering an Inter Disciplinary Elective (IDE) to Computer Science background students in their II semester.
           

Mini Project
          The students of III B.A (HEP) as part of their degree are doing mini project on “Participation of Women in Legislature in India’ in the academic year 2014-2015.

          Organised a guest lecture on “ Women Acts” in India by Professor C.Jayasree , HOD Law Department, Acharya Nagarjuna University on 04.02.2014.

Teacher Activities
Ch.GeetaDevi  has presented a paper on “          Impact of agitation  on the Service  sector of  Andhra Pradesh “ at 32nd Annual conference of Andhra Pradesh Economic Association organised by  Economics Department at Mari’s Stella College on 8th  February 2014.
A.JyotsnaValenteena  andN.S.Lakshmi has presented a paper on “ Economics of Dairy farming  in  Andhra Pradesh “ at
Student Activities :
1)    K.Sowjanya of III B.A , K.NagaLakshmi (I B.A) , Sr.Nirmala (IIB.A), J.Prasanna Lakshmi (I B.A) and T.ArokiaTejaswi (III B.A) won 1st,2nd,3rd , 4th and 5th prizes in Elocution competition conducted by ‘Forum of Free Enterprises’ organised by Economics Department , Maris Stella College.
2)    M. SpoorthySharone and C. Minnie Sherley of III B.A won  1st and 3rd prizes in Essay Writing Competition conducted by English Department , Maris Stella College.
3)    K.Nagalakshmi and P.Indupriya of I B.A won 2nd and 3rd prizes in Essay writing competition conducted by Andhra Bank on the occasion of PattabhiSitaramaya’s centenary celebrations.
4)    K.KrupaHaveela of III B.A won 3rd prize in Quiz Competition conducted by Hindu Newspaper at P.B. Siddhartha College.
5)    SafiyaSayeda of III B.A won 1st prize in Inter Collegiate Basket Ball Competition.
